Ministerial Mandate Letters

The Ministerial mandate letters for the new Cabinet present significant opportunity for CUTRIC and its Members. The fight against climate change was a strong overarching theme across every single mandate letter, and the government’s commitment to taking environmental action was emphasized in the following key Ministries:

  • Minister of Infrastructure and Communities Catherine McKenna: implement the government’s historic Investing in Canada plan, make the federal commitment to public transit permanent and ensure that they are used to support zero-emission buses and rail systems, finalize the creation of a new infrastructure fund to support communities transitioning from fossil fuels
  • Minister of Environment and Climate Change Jonathan Wilkinson: Implement the Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change, work with the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry and the Minister of Natural Resources to position Canada as a global leader in clean technology, advance toward our zero-emissions vehicles targets
  • Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry Navdeep Bains: Work with the Minister of Natural Resources and the Minister of Environment and Climate Change to position Canada as a global leader in clean technology, track towards our zero-emission vehicles targets, and continue to support innovation ecosystems across the country to support job creation, technology adoption, investment and scale-up
