Transit Agencies

Transit Agency (TA) Members can engage directly in commercial project development and business development efforts with city-oriented focal points in partnership with CUTRIC’s senior staff, including project managers and the CEO, in an effort to design the best possible integration trials to achieve municipal targets to cut emissions, improve ridership or extend transit services.

This engagement includes enlisting the support of the CUTRIC to support local lobby efforts or town/city council information sessions to help educate elected officials about new technologies – challenges and solutions ahead.

TA Members and their riders are always at the heart of CUTRIC’s pan-Canadian commercialization projects in electric bus, hydrogen bus and smart vehicles mobility services. TA Members participate in and often help lead CUTRIC’s national commercialization project discussions to best achieve their local and municipal goals.

Specific benefits include:

  • Access to heavily discounted fees for use of CUTRIC’s trademarked RoutΣ.i™ and deCarbonify™ modelling tools for route-based and block-based alternative propulsion and energy systems simulation and modelling, as well as greenhouse gas (GHG) relative measure analysis (vis-à-vis other cities)
    • These tools help TAs simulate and predict battery and H2 electric bus performance, charging system performance, energy storage integration performance, electricity and H2 fuel costs, GHG emissions (tailpipe or well-to-wheel), total cost of ownership (TOC), and other key variables
    • CUTRIC researchers can also help TAs engage in vehicle supply equipment localization and mapping, life cycle assessments (LCAs), and return-on-investment predictions in local communities
    • Access for TA Members – under Non-Disclosure Agreements – to modelling results for Canadian and American cities as available
  • Access to CUTRIC’s low-cost high quality project management for the development and successful launch of national demonstration projects, supporting Transit Agencies throughout the total life of the project
  • Access to support for the development of novel business plans in the form of Innovation P3© models which detail a strategy for asset acquisition, operations and maintenance as well as financing (with possible design and build components) to support upfront capital investments and long-term operations of low carbon smart-mobility commercialization and deployments projects nationwide
  • Receipt of up-to-date and dynamic education on new technologies in low-carbon smart mobility emanating from competitive vendors or potential new suppliers within the national and North American eco-system
  • Access to cutting edge CUTRIC Technical Reports, including CUTRIC’s annual CUTRIC White Paper Series on electric bus, hydrogen fuel cell bus and connected and autonomous shuttle technologies (Volume 1, 2019-2020)
  • Access to data collection-focused e-bus, H2 bus, and smart vehicle Steering Committees allied to CUTRIC commercialization projects as “Observers” under Non-Disclosure and special IP Agreements with CUTRIC project partners
  • Receipt of Letters of Support from CUTRIC’s CEO to support TA-led bids, projects and funding proposals
  • Access to CUTRIC’s useful Membership Directory with detailed Member Designate contact information for the whole CUTRIC consortium
  • Access to strategic insights into the ongoing research and IP outputs emanating from CUTRIC-funded e-bus, H2-bus and smart vehicle research at more than two dozen universities and colleges across Canada, as captured in CUTRIC’s National Academic Advisory Committees (NAACs) for e-bus, H2-bus and smart vehicle research
  • Access to introductions to specific industry partners to learn about new technologies and solutions offered by Industry Members
  • Development support for the composition and sharing of TA-led technical specifications for e-bus, H2 bus and smart vehicle Performance Measures, which TA Members and cities can use to asses systems performance during and post-deployment on roads
